1. The nest

The island of Syros was transformed into a special “paper” nest thanks to the eyes of Dan Richards and the participants of the workshop. Based on the Techniques of A + C Studio, the film was created by the team members, by making paper characters from old books and newspapers, which gained movement and life through the stop-motion Technique.

 
2. Puppets portraits

The participants created from the scratch a character who could star in an animation film according to the model of the award-winning production of A + C studio “A life in print”. With handmade and original frame-by-frame Techniques, with new experimental ideas and design lines, the team of the workshop under the supervision of Dan Richards, carried out a difficult task from the conception of the idea to its delivery.

3. Memories in motion

The members of the Elderly Care Center of Syros during this three-day workshop traveled through time, reviving memories and moments from their lives. An emotion, a well-hidden secret and a great event became an occasion to dive into the past, to be inspired and to create a story, using their favorite objects. Equipped with endless fun and creativity, the participants managed to give us a film of short Duration but great emotion.

4. Animamusic

How can we see and play with the sounds and rhythms of a song we have already recorded? The beginning is the movement and after that the creation. Scenes with cardboard, experiments with paints and collages gave another dimension to the musical creations of the participants of Centre of Creative Activities for Children with Disabilities of Syros, with the Technique of pixilation and cuts out. This time a script without a script, nothing was found where it sounded.
5. The island

A + C presented a stop motion animation workshop, using paper crafts. Following the international success of The Happy Eggs commercial for the studio, Dan Richards and his team offered participants the opportunity to create a huge paper construction depicting Syros, which was later converted into a moving picture.

6. Armed with solidarity and a smile

Target Group: HIV-positive women

In September 2017, Animasyros in collaboration with the Centre for Life, the non-governmental Organization in support of people living with HIV / AIDS, organized a media literacy workshop for women living with the virus. The group of HIV-positive women that participated under the guidance of Educator Elena Pavlaki gave a touching message of solidarity and love, writing “moving words” in the lens.

7. Travelling Europe

The students of Syros had the opportunity to make a virtual trip to the countries and sights of Europe in the tenth anniversary edition of the Animasyros International Animation Festival. Guided by animator Elena Pavlaki, with creativity and endless fun, they traveled to European stations, as heroes and creators learning animation Techniques and building a short animation film at the same time.

8. A different Syros: Unfolding its story

In Animasyros 11, the teenagers of Syros were invited to travel to the past and tell the stories of their ancestors. The Mausoleum, the Orthodox Cemetery of Agios Georgios of Syros, like any cemetery is a place of rest of the island. With the Technique of pixilation and stop-motion, the children under the guidance of Educators Eleni Mouri and Babis Alexiadis created a story full of mythical heroes with a reference to the history of the island. The participants, as in any workshop, undertook the script, the construction of the paper characters, the direction and the support of the narration with audiovisual means.

9. Body regeneration

Target Group: members of KETHEA PAREMVASI

The adventure of the body from light to darkness, from the fall to the rebirth was captured during the four-day workshop of KETHEA PAREMVASI. Alkistis Tsikou with the help of kinesiologist Dimitra Sviggou and with the guidelines of cooperation, team and self-knowledge, created a video with protagonists members of the community who embraced the journey of inner transformation.
10. The journey of microplastics

Target Group: high school students (12-16 years old)

In the context of Animasyros 12, which had as its thematic core the environment, a media literacy workshop on the journey of plastics was organized in collaboration with Aegean Rebreath. In particular, Fokion Xenos, director and creator of animated films, designed with the help of the participants the path of the plastic from the moment someone throws it into the sea until it ends up in our stomach.

Aegean Rebreath is a voluntary Organization founded in 2017 and aims to protect the aquatic ecosystem and biodiversity through underwater and coastal cleanups and other activities throughout Greece.

11. Rebeticats

Target Group: elementary school students (6-11 years old)

A cat gang enjoys rebetiko music and company when the good atmosphere is suddenly interrupted by a dog police force that violates their music venue. Thomas Kunstler, an Italian filmmaker, was once again inspired by his love of rebetiko, creating an imaginative, humorous short video with the help of children.

12. Als

Target Group: members of KETHEA PAREMVASI

Duration: 16 hours

In July 2020, Babis Alexiadis and the Animasyros team visited the Community of KETHEA PAREMVASI in Rafina for a four-day media literacy workshop with the members of the community. Using the Homeric word Als, which means sea, the participants had the opportunity to create their own script, combining their inward thoughts about the marine world and its personal symbolism, in an animated lyrical video of great sensitivity. From the storm to the stillness, from the darkness to the light, from the dream to reality, a film dedicated to inner change that was screened at the 15th Los Angeles Greek Film Festival in May 2021.

13. Animated calligraphy

Target Group: teenagers

Calligraphy and animation were combined with feathers, reed pens, and fabrics as tools. Guided by the lyrics of “Klostirou” by Markos Vamvakaris, and with references to the industrial heritage of Syros, the participants had the opportunity to be introduced to calligraphy and then film the movement of words. The story unfolded frame by frame and hundreds of photos against the backdrop of beautiful corners of Syros, composed a multidimensional stop motion.
